"I recorded most of the UNTOLD record in an old vaudeville theater on Attorney Street in Manhattan in the Summer of 2002. Around that time I became close friends with the pianist Paul Tillotson. Paul was unlike any person I had ever met in my life. We began writing demos for UNTOLD in his tiny apartment on 6th Street. He had a gorgeous Mason and Hamlin piano from the 1930s that had been completely restored. His piano's name was Margaret. And believe me, Margaret had a soul and a sound that was deep and gorgeous. I would lay on the floor of Paul's apartment and listen to him play for hours. Paul was from Boise, Idaho. He was beautifully eccentric and an artist in the truest sense. He even had his own clothing line called Butt Furr. I remember him writing the pizzicato string parts of the opening song, One Train one afternoon. He had so many great musical ideas. After the session, I saw him play with his group, The Love Trio at a nearby venue. We drank watermelon martinis before the gig and I was in a blissful state as their unique form of jazz music washed over me. I was in a very inspired zone while tracking Untold - that record has a mood, both mysterious and sexy. I got to work with the photographer, Danny Clinch, for the album artwork. My favorite image he shot was a blurry abstract photo taken by the west side highway. Visually it summed up the emotion and the tone of that album." – Pete Francis
